MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team (26-8) defeated the University of Rio Grande (26-13) in the Opening Round of the 2025 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament on Saturday, November 22 in Ariel Arena.
MVNU hosted the NAIA opening round for the third consecutive year, and came away with its third consecutive victory, this time sweeping the Red Storm. MVNU dominated the first set, winning 25-13. The momentum created in set one carried over to the next as the Lady Cougars won 25-19. In set three, the Red Storm put up a fight, but could not prevent a season ending defeat, falling 25-22.
Evelyn Brown had 11 kills and hit an impressive .647 in the match. The freshman had four blocks. Morgan Schlabach also had 11 kills. Schlabach added 10 digs and three blocks. Reagan Nuss had 33 assists, five digs, and two kills. Jaelyn Tang had 22 digs in the sweep.

With the win, MVNU advances to the 46th annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship on December 3-9 in Sioux City, Iowa. Pool Play assignments will be announced on Sunday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m. CT.
