No. 13 Lady Cougars Fall at No. 21 Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. The No. 13 Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team (17-6, 8-3 CL) played No. 21 Taylor University (16-7, 7-4 CL) on the road on Saturday, October 11.

MVNU and Taylor each battled hard in the NAIA top 25 matchup, going a full five sets. Taylor claimed set one 25-22. The Lady Cougars answered in a big way in the second set, pulling out a gritty 30-28 win. MVNU let that momentum carry over into set three where it would go onto win 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Taylor bounced back, tying the match 2-2 with a 25-17 win in set four. In the final set of the match, Taylor pulled away late to win by a score of 15-13.

Faith Maloney led MVNU with 17 kills and eight digs, while Evelyn Brown had 15 kills, four digs and two blocks. Libby Evanshine had 12 kills for MVNU. Defensively MVNU had five players reach double digit digs. Jaelyn Tang had 25, Reagan Nuss had 16, Ashley Merrick had 14, and Morgan Schlabach and Kate Ruffle had 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Nuss had 51 assists and three kills as well for MVNU.

MVNU plays at Huntington University on Wednesday, October 15 in Huntington, Indiana at 7:00 p.m.
