Defense Strong in Scoreless Draw at Rio Grande
RIO GRANDE, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team (5-1-2) went on the road to face the University of Rio Grande (2-1-4) on Wednesday, September 17.
The Lady Cougars outshot Rio Grande in the first half 4-0, ending the 45 minutes in a scoreless tie. The Lady Cougars got a few more looks to try and break the draw after the half, almost doubling their shots to seven in the second half.
Alexis Hoffman led MVNU with three shots, two of which were on goal. Meghan Moser and Chelsea Simpson added to the offensive effort with two shots each. Emmie Hoffman, Cora Bishop, Becca Drew, and Avery Erslan each added one shot for MVNU in the 0-0 draw.
MVNU would finish with 11 shots, with seven of those being on goal. MVNU's defense only allowed Rio Grande three shots, none of which were on goal. Hannah Miller played all 90 minutes for the Lady Cougars, earning her fifth shutout of the season.
What's Next
The Lady Cougars will be back on the road in a week for their first Crossroads League matchup. They will face Goshen University (Ind.) on Wednesday, September 24 with kickoff starting at 7:00 p.m.
