Five Second Half Goals Lead to Lady Cougar Win

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team (5-1-1) hosted the University of Cincinnati Clermont (1-4-1) on Wednesday, September 13 where it defeated the guests by a score of 5-1. 

After the first half ending in a 0-0 tie, MVNU came back strong, scoring all five goals in the second half. Chelsea Simpson put the Lady Cougars on the board first with a goal at the 52nd minute, making the score 1-0.  

Alexis Hoffman had back-to-back goals, scoring her first goal at the 77th minute and the second goal at the 81st minute. Hoffman was assisted by Avery Erslan for the first goal and Emmie Hoffman for the second, giving the Lady Cougars a lead of 3-0. UC Clermont answered with a goal from Alexis Taylor at the 84th minute, bringing the score to 3-1.  

MVNU responded with a goal from Aspen Scythes at the 86th minute, which was her first career goal. Sofia Terrell also had her first career goal, scoring the final goal of the game with eight seconds left on the clock, ending the game with a score of 5-1. 

Playing the full 90 minutes for the Lady Cougars, Hannah Miller made six saves. MVNU outshot UC Clermont 40-15 with 21 shots being on goal. 

What's Next 

The Lady Cougars will next travel to the University of Rio Grande on Wednesday, September 17 for their last game before starting conference play. Kickoff will start at 6:00 p.m.
