Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest to No. 6 Saint Francis
FORT WAYNE, IND. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (6-14, 2-8 CL) traveled to face the No. 6 University of Saint Francis (19-1, 9-1 CL) on Saturday, January 24.
MVNU took a narrow 12-10 lead halfway through the first quarter after a layup from Angela Roshak. USF would take the lead over MVNU soon after, which continued to the end of the first quarter with a score of 19-14. USF started the second quarter strong, going on a 10-3 run. USF continued to build on the lead over MVNU throughout the second quarter, which ended with a score of 45-26.
USF started the third quarter firing on all cylinders, scoring on three consecutive possessions to build its lead further. The 8-0 run pushed USF's lead to 53-26 and MVNU would trail 61-39 at the end of the quarter. The hosts did not let up in the fourth, pushing their lead to 37 late in the fourth. The Lady Cougars of MVNU fell by a score of 86-51 in the end.
MVNU shot 33.3% from the field, 22.6% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free throw line. USF shot 55.2% from the field and a red-hot 61.1% from three, making 11 of its 18 attempts. Kylie Leibacher led MVNU on offense with 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds with one assist and one steal. Lily Shepherd also provided offensively with 11 points. Shepherd added five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Anna Swisshelm scored ten points, had five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block.

The Lady Cougars will next host Huntington University at Ariel Arena on Wednesday, January 28, tipping off at 5:00 p.m.
