Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 23 Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (4-9) traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky for a non-conference game at No. 23 Georgetown College (13-0) on Friday, December 12.
MVNU played a strong first quarter, winning the period 16-14. The Lady Cougars shot 54.5% from the field and 40% from three in the first 10 minutes. The Tigers woke up in the second, opening the quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 25-16 lead. Georgetown kept up the strong play and outscored MVNU 31-16 in the second. The Tigers led 45-32 at halftime. Georgetown held a 52-41 lead with 7:29 left in the third, but MVNU fought back, going on a 6-0 run to cut its deficit to just five with 5:54 left. The Tigers responded with a 17-0 run to take complete control of the game. After three, MVNU found itself down 74-52. Georgetown remained in front the rest of the way, winning by a final score of 105-67.
The Tigers were on fire from deep, hitting 16 threes at a 45.7% rate. MVNU conceded 18 offensive rebounds which led to 25 second chance points. 20 turnovers for MVNU turned into 31 points for the Tigers.
Lily Shepherd led MVNU with 16 points on 5-12 shooting from the field and 2-6 shooting from deep. Kylie Leibacher had 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor to go with six rebounds. Angela Roshak had 10 points on 4-5 shooting to go with five rebounds.
