MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (10-7, 3-5) played in Ariel Arena and took on the No. 17 Marian University Knights (14-4, 7-1) and fell by a score of 54-89 on Wednesday, January 15.
The Crossroads League tilt began with Marian starting strong and taking an early 4-0 lead over the Lady Cougars. MVNU's first six points came from freshman Naomi Keib as she knocked down two threes, giving herself half of her 12 points on the day. Teresa Maggio closed out the first quarter with an incredible buzzer-beater from half-court, cutting the Marian lead to 16-24 heading into the second. The Knights continued to control the game in the second quarter and led 44-28 heading into the half.
Marian started strong in the third quarter, quickly striking with a 6-0 run right out of the gate to further take control of the game. MVNU could not muster up a comeback and fell in the end 54-89.
