MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (19-19, 12-16 CL) faced the University of Saint Francis Cougars (28-7, 24-3 CL) in its final home series of the season at the Cougar Softball Field on Tuesday, April 14.
In the first game, Saint Francis came out strong, scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning. The next two innings remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when USF added four more runs to extend its lead to 13–0. MVNU responded with a run, as Skylar Zimmerman led off with a single to right field and later advanced to third on a single to center before scoring to make it 13–1. In the top of the fifth, USF added two more runs, and MVNU was unable to mount a comeback, as the game ended in the bottom of the inning with a final score of 15–2.
In the second game, MVNU struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Kiera Mayer led off with a double to right field and later came around to score, giving the Lady Cougars a 1–0 lead. After two scoreless innings, USF responded with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, taking a 4–1 advantage. MVNU attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally fell short against Saint Francis. The Lady Cougars ultimately dropped the second game by a final score of 4–3.

MVNU Softball will be playing in Goshen, Indiana to take on Goshen College on Friday, April 17 at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
