MELBOURNE, Fla.– The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (6-4, 1-1 CL) dropped two games in the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida against No. 6 Madonna University (11-0) and Florida National University (11-10) on Saturday, March 7.
Madonna jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs. In the bottom of the second, Kiera Mayer hit her first home run of the season—a solo shot to left field. The home run also gave Mayer the most career home runs in program history, setting a record with 25.
Madonna added 10 more runs over the final three innings to extend its lead. The Crusaders defeated the Lady Cougars by a final score of 13–1.
In the second game, Makenzie Delaney took the mound for the Lady Cougars and recorded two strikeouts while allowing just three hits. The Lady Cougars finished with four hits but stranded five runners on base. Avery Miller led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a single and a double to left-center field. Dakota Staffan and Mayer each added a hit. The Conquistadors scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth inning and held the lead for the remainder of the game, as Florida National defeated MVNU by a final score of 1–0.

MVNU softball will play their final games at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games against Bellevue University at 10:00 a.m. and Trinity Christian University at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, March 9 in Melbourne, Florida.
