Lady Cougars Close Season with Loss to Saint Francis
UPLAND, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team competed in the elimination round of the Crossroads League Softball Tournament against the University of Saint Francis on Thursday, May 1 at Taylor University.
Saint Francis jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs through the first four innings. MVNU rallied in the top of the fifth, starting with a single to left field by Skylar Zimmerman. Dakota Staffan followed with another single, putting two runners on for Avery Miller, who drove one in with a base hit.
With the bases loaded and one out, Sydney Hoover singled to center, bringing home two more runs. Mollie Pentz kept the momentum going with a single that scored another, cutting the deficit to 6-4. However, Saint Francis held on from there to secure the win.
The Lady Cougars concluded their season with a 28-21 overall record and a 19-17 mark in Crossroads League play.
