MVNU Baseball Drops Final Two Games at (RV) Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (25-25, 14-22 CL) played its final two games of the four-game set at (RV) Huntington University (37-10, 27-9 CL) on Saturday, April 25.

The Foresters were in complete control in the first game of the day and would win 10-0 in seven innings. MVNU was only able to generate four hits at the plate, which were produced by Carter LaPata, Brady Lester, Jack Schreck, and Tyler Ooten.

In the second game, MVNU was finally able to find its offense. Despite falling behind 2-8 after the first inning, MVNU began to chip away at the Huntington lead in the second inning with three runs. The Cougars then took a 9-8 lead after scoring four more runs in the top of the third. The inning was capped off with Shreck's fourth homer of the spring. In the top of the fifth, Lester hit his ninth home run of the season, giving MVNU a 10-8 advantage. The Cougars added one more run in the seventh after Lester drove in LaPata with a single up the middle. Huntington trailed 8-11 heading into the bottom of the seventh and was able to tie the game at 11-11. With two runners on base and two outs, the Forester batter launched a three-run homer, giving Huntington a walk-off win by a final score of 14-11.

 

What's Next

With the regular season now complete, MVNU will begin postseason play in the Crossroads League Tournament, hosted by Spring Arbor University, as the No. 7 seed. The team will take on No. 6 Spring Arbor on Wednesday, April 29 at 12:00 p.m.
