MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (19-22, 9-19 CL) resumed its series with the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats (26-15, 19-9 CL) on Saturday, April 11.
A Kaid Carpenter single through the right side of the field in the top of the first inning allowed Rider Minnick to come home and give MVNU a 1-0 lead. IWU answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take its first lead of the day. The Wildcats added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, stretching their lead to 4-1. In the top of the ninth, Minnick hit an RBI single to left that scored Andrew Hobbs, making the score 4-2, IWU. With two outs, MVNU had the tying runs on base, but it was unable to bring them home to tie the game. The Cougars would fall to the Wildcats in the first game of the day by a final score of 2-4. Despite the loss, Ryan Willoughby pitched a strong game. Willoughby pitched seven innings and allowed just four hits and two earned runs. He also had 11 strikeouts.
The Wildcats started strong in the next game as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings. Brennen Nichols put MVNU on the board with a solo shot in the fifth. The Wildcats responded to the MVNU run with a four-run bottom of the inning to make the score 9-1. Willoughby remained hot at the plate for the Cougars in the top of the sixth as he hit a two-run bomb to cut into the IWU lead. MVNU added another run in the seventh but fell in the end 4-9.

MVNU will play a nonconference game at Kenyon College on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
