Women’s Volleyball Ready to Start 2023 Season in Montana

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team will begin its 2023 season on Friday, August 18 with a 1:00pm matchup at Carroll College in the Big Sky Challenge in Helena, Montana. The Lady Cougars will then take on Rocky Mountain at 6:00pm, before playing Bushnell and Warner Pacific the following day.

The Lady Cougars are looking to build upon a strong 2022 season. Head coach Kendra Mosher's team went 27-7 overall and placed fourth with a 12-6 record in the Crossroads League, records that she and her team feel they can improve upon in 2023.

Mosher has several key players returning this Fall, including five seniors to lead the team in Jessica Bock, Molly Galaszewski, Madison Heck, Chloe Peters, and Sydney Sherrieb. The Lady Cougars are in good hands with this group of returners. Galszewski, who is coming back for her fifth season, earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in 2022. Galaszewski had 507 digs and 81 assists, while averaging 4.37 digs and 0.70 assists per set. Bock, Heck, and Sherrieb will all be looking to make offensive contributions filling in roles at the hitting and setting positions. Peters will look to make her mark on the back row for MVNU as a defensive specialist.

Another key returner for the Lady Cougars is Jaelyn Tang, who in 2022 earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and made the All-Freshman Team. Tang finished the season with 147 kills, 306 digs, and 40 service aces, while averaging 2.73 digs per set and 1.31 kills per set.

Mosher has five incoming players coming in to add depth and strength to the squad. Libby Evanshine, Eliana Morgan, Lilla Nicholas, Lyssi Snouffer, and Emma Thamarus join the program in 2023, and will provide competition for the rest of the team as they fight for places on the court.

With a plethora of experienced players returning and the addition of some fresh new faces, Mosher and her Lady Cougars will look to improve on last season and make a run in the Crossroads League.
