Women’s Track & Field Concludes Crossroads League Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's track & field team competed in the second day of the Crossroads League Championships, hosted by Marian University on Saturday, February 17. The team finished the meet in tenth overall with 21 total points. 

Top Performers: 

Brooke Holloway – Pole Vault – NAIA A Standard - Fourth Place – 3.57m 

Lyssi Snouffer – 400m – School Record - Fifth Place – 1:00.24 

Louisa Hallabrin, Ellyn Coe, Ashley Burgess, Lauren Warder – 4x800m relay – Sixth Place – 9:53.61 

Coe – 1000m – Sixth Place – 3:04.11 

Snouffer – 600m – School Record - Sixth Place – 1:40.24 

Ashley Burgess, Snouffer, Ally Potter, Coe – 4x400m – Sixth Place – 4:09.66 

Potter – 400m – Eighth Place – 1:01.07 

Coach Gallion's Thoughts: 

"The crossroads League from top to bottom is arguably the strongest track and field league in the NAIA and we are blessed to be able to compete in it. This weekend was beautiful to see our athletes competing at the highest level and striving to be the best they could be. As a coach I saw remarkable effort, but I also was proud to see our fellowship with one another and other teams. This group is a joy to coach, and they represent MVNU and Christ in their endeavors. Our ladies competed gallantly but points were hard to come by. From field events, Brooke pulled in some points from pole vault and hit the A standard again. It is remarkable to show such consistency at such a high-level, and she has grown in big ways in the last couple of weeks. I'm excited to see her compete at nationals! From our distance crew, Ellyn fought hard in the 1K to bring in points and came up just shy of the national standard. She was joined by Louisa, Ashley, and Lauren and they scored some valuable points by running strong in the four-by-eight. From our sprint crew, the four hundred ladies performed exceptionally well with Lyssi and Ally placing in that event. Ally has been building towards a big performance and it was fun to see her put it together today! Lyssi is coming off a tough injury and she showed an enormous amount of grit to set another personal record and beat her own school record in the four hundred; and that was on top of scoring big points in the six hundred the night before. Then, to cap off the weekend, she and Ally were joined by Ashley and Ellyn in the four-by-four to close out the meet with a season best time in a fun race! I am very proud of these ladies and the growth they have shown throughout this season. I can't wait to see what nationals will bring and the outdoor season to follow!" 
 

What's Next:

The MVNU women's track & field National Qualifiers will compete in the NAIA Indoor Championships, hosted by South Dakota State University on February 29-March 2.
