Cougars Win in PA

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.- The Mount Vernon Women's Lacrosse team (9-2) beat Slippery Rock University's club team on Friday, March 31.

The Lady Cougars started their game against Slippery Rock Universities strong with two goals from sophomore Jessie Kyer early in the first half. The Lady Lions held on keeping it a close game for most of the first half. The Cougars were only up by one point with 4 minutes to go in the first half when a timeout was called by Coach Russell to help the girls refocus. After the timeout, the Cougars improved their lead with a goal from Rebekah Kalas and increased their speed and accuracy of moving the ball around in transition and on offense.

Going into the second half with a score of 5-3, the Cougars would continue to score goals on offense, not having to worry very much about Slippery Rock making a comeback. Freshman goalie Laney Jackson would continue to build up her number of saves, only allowing 6 goals for the entire game. Jackson said after the game that she "is proud of everyone for their improvement with taking care of the ball in transition." The final score ended at 10-6 to add to the winning record for MVNU.
