Women’s Basketball Falls to (RV) IWU
MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (6-19, 2-13 CL) faced (RV) Indiana Wesleyan University (14-11, 8-7 CL) on the road on Wednesday, February 11.
In the first quarter, IWU started off quick with a 12-0 lead, until Kylie Leibacher made a three-pointer at 6:07 to put the Lady Cougars on the board. IWU would continue to build on the lead to the end of the quarter, which ended with a score of 20-13. Anna Swisshelm's layup at the 5-minute mark in the second quarter would try to bring some momentum for the Lady Cougars, but IWU would continue to hold the lead, going into the half winning by a score of 45-26.
At the 7-minute mark in the third quarter, a three-pointer by Lily Shepherd would cut the IWU lead down to 20 points, but IWU persisted to expand the lead, going into the fourth quarter up 66-45. IWU would not let up in the fourth quarter and finished on top with a score of 78-57.
MVNU shot 100% (4-4) from the free throw line, 44.0% (22-50) from the field, and 33.3% (9-27) from the three-point line. The Lady Cougars caused eight turnovers, scoring eight points from them, while IWU caused 18 MVNU turnovers, scoring 25 points from them. Swisshelm led MVNU, coming off the bench to score 15 points and grabbing four rebounds. Leibacher added 12 points, one rebound, and one assist.

MVNU will next host Bethel University on Saturday, February 14 at Ariel Arena, starting at 1:00 p.m.
