Women’s Basketball Defeated at IU East
RICHMOND, Ind. - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-3) fell on the road to Indiana University East (1-0) on Tuesday, November 4 with a final score of 76-72.
MVNU started strong, winning the first quarter 15-10 over the Red Wolves. IU East battled back, regaining momentum. The Red Wolves outscored the Lady Cougars in the second 22-16 and found themselves up 32-31 at halftime.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the third quarter with neither team able to pull away from the other. The score would be deadlocked at 52, heading into the fourth. A pair of free throws from Kylie Leibacher put MVNU up 60-58 with just over five minutes left, but the Red Wolves responded and closed the game on an 18-12 run, winning 76-72.
Turnovers were costly for MVNU as it finished with 23 of them that turned into 27 points for the Red Wolves. Despite the loss, MVNU shot 51.9% from the floor, outrebounded its opponent 41-27, and owned the paint with 40 points.
Leibacher led MVNU in scoring for the fourth straight game, finishing with 29 points on 12-18 shooting from the floor. Anna Swisshelm had 14 points on 4-8 shooting, was 6-7 from the line and pulled down four rebounds.

MVNU heads to Beckley, West Virginia for a matchup against West Virginia Tech on Saturday, November 8. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
