Women’s Basketball Downed by (RV) Olivet Nazarene
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-2) concluded the Chick-Fil-A Classic against the hosts, (RV) Olivet Nazarene University (2-0) on Saturday, November 1.
MVNU trailed at the half 41-30 and would fall in the end by a score of 87-76. In what was a very fast paced game, Olivet's constant full court pressure forced 31 MVNU turnovers, converting them into 35 points. Despite the outcome, MVNU held its own in a variety of areas and didn't quit until the final buzzer. The Lady Cougars outrebounded the Tigers 57-41 and had 14 second chance points. MVNU also outshot Olivet Nazarene overall from the field, hitting 42.4% of its shots while holding the Tigers to just 34.5% on its attempts. Olivet Nazarene hit 10 threes in the game at a 25.6% mark.
Kylie Leibacher led MVNU in scoring for the third straight game with 21 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor. She had six rebounds and led MVNU with five assists as well. Angela Roshak had 11 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Melodie Blubaugh had a big game off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing three rebounds. Lily Shepherd had a team-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Cougars to go with her four points. Olivia Skillings had eight points to go along with five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals.
