Season Ends in Crossroads League Play-In Game for MVNU Softball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (25-22) played in the Crossroads League Softball Tournament play-in game against Huntington University (27-22) on Tuesday, April 28 at the University of Saint Francis.

MVNU entered the win or go home game as the No. 6 seed in the conference standings and Huntington entered as the No. 7 seed. The Foresters opened the game strong as they put three runs on the board right out of the gate in the top of the first inning. MVNU responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homer by Skylar Zimmerman, making the score 2-3.

The Foresters began to add to their lead as they scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. The Lady Cougars answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Jesenia Montalvo hit a double to right center field that scored Brooklyn Krum and Shanda Melick, making the score 4-7. The Foresters took a 9-4 lead in the top seventh, adding more run support. Dakota Staffan hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but no other runs would come home for the Lady Cougars. MVNU fell by a final score of 5-9, marking the end of the 2026 softball season.
