Lady Cougars Take Game Two with Late Inning Rally at SAU
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (24-21, 17-18 CL) traveled to face Spring Arbor University (29-21, 20-16 CL) on Saturday, April 25.
In game one, Spring Arbor got off to a fast start, scoring three in the bottom of the first. Spring Arbor scored again in the bottom of the second, going up 4-0. Spring Arbor managed to put up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, which secured the 6-0 win for Spring Arbor.
Avery Miller and Dakota Staffan each had one hit for the Lady Cougars. Staffan pitched 4.2 innings and had two strikeouts. Makenzie Delaney came in for relief, pitching 1.1 inning with two strikeouts.
In game two, Spring Arbor was first to score late in the game at the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs. The Lady Cougars answered back in the top of the sixth inning. Zhari Hill doubled to left field and advanced to third after a double to left by Mackenzie Reeves. Brooklyn Krum's single to the pitcher would allow Hill to score and advanced Reeves to third. Taryn Craven's double allowed Krum to advance to third and Reeves to score. Then a sacrifice fly by Skylar Zimmerman scored Krum, securing the Lady Cougar's victory 3-2.
Krum led MVNU's offense with one run, two hits, and one RBI. Reeves had one run and two hits, and Hill had one run and one hit. On the mound, Bailey Sheets advanced to 11-6, having six strikeouts.
What's Next
MVNU will next travel to Grace College on Monday, April 27 to continue the suspended game from April 21 at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Cougars were leading 11-6 in the top of the fifth inning.
