SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team opened up play in the Crossroads League Softball Tournament, hosted by Spring Arbor University on Wednesday, May 1.
No.4 MVNU took on fifth-seeded Huntington to begin the day. After taking an early 2-0 lead after an RBI double from Kiera Mayer and a solo homerun from Avery Miller, a five-run fifth inning from Huntington flipped momentum completely. Now trailing 2-5, Mayer hit a solo bomb over the fence to cut the deficit to two runs. Unfortunately, MVNU could not get any closer and would fall by a final score of 3-7 after the Foresters tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning.
With the loss, MVNU will play on Thursday, May 2 against the loser of Indiana Wesleyan vs. Spring Arbor/Taylor at 12:00pm.
