MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (25-19, 18-14) fell twice to No.8 Marian University (39-9, 27-7) on Wednesday, April 24.
MVNU was defeated in five innings in the first game of the day by a score of 0-12. A six-run fifth inning put the game out of reach and sealed the victory for the visitors. Brooklyn Krum had the lone MVNU hit in game one.
MVNU responded to its previous defeat to the Knights by coming out to a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Kiera Mayer's single to right field brought home Mallory Holcomb, and Holcomb's RBI single in the second inning added to the lead. A big fourth inning put the Knights back on top as they scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Mackenzie Hancock brought home Holcomb with an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh. MVNU was unable to score the game-tying run in the end, falling by a final score of 3-4. Despite the loss, Maddelyn Wine had a solid, 145-pitch outing. Wine allowed just two earned runs and had four strikeouts on the day.

MVNU hosts Goshen College on Thursday, April 25. The home doubleheader will begin at 3:00pm.
