MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (14-14, 7-9) hosted Huntington University (14-22, 6-16) on Tuesday, April 9.
MVNU defeated Huntington 3-0 in the first game of the doubleheader. The game held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Kiera Mayer hit a three-run double to push MVNU to the win. Sheridan Sullivan was strong in her start as she pitched a seven-inning shutout. The senior allowed just six hits and struck out two.
MVNU didn't slow down in game two as it chopped down the Foresters in five innings. Mayer got the Lady Cougars on the board in the first inning with her eighth homerun of the season. That run would prove to be all MVNU needed as it cruised to an 8-0 victory. Ashtynn Roberts ended the game with a two-run single that scored Mallory Holcomb and Brooklyn Krum. Maddelyn Wine was lights-out in her start, allowing just one hit in the shutout win. Wine had four strikeouts on the day.

MVNU will host the University of Saint Francis on Thursday, April 11. The doubleheader at Cougar Field begins at 3:00pm.
