Softball Falls in Conference Doubleheader at No.17 IWU

MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (12-14, 5-9) played in a Crossroads League doubleheader at Indiana Wesleyan University (27-5, 17-2) at Sue Bowman Field on Saturday, April 6.

In the opening game, MVNU struggled to get its offense going, managing only three hits from Zhari Hill, Mollie Pentz, and Brooklyn Krum. IWU took an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, which stood as the final score in game one. Maddelyn Wine pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Sydney Elliott drove in both of MVNU's runs with RBIs in the second and fourth innings. The two runs were not enough as the Lady Cougars fell 2-5. MVNU accumulated a total of six hits during the game. Nadia Hoffman pitched for 3.2 innings, giving up three hits and five runs. The junior had five strikeouts. Sheridan Sullivan relieved her, pitching 2.1 innings without allowing any hits. Sullivan struck out four batters.

 

What's Next:

Softball will return home to the Cougar Softball Field for a matchup against Huntington University on Tuesday, April 9. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00pm.
