Lady Cougars End Doubleheader at SAU with 4-0 Win

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (11-11, 4-6) earned a road split at Spring Arbor University (15-10, 7-5) on Monday, March 25.

MVNU lost the front end of the doubleheader by a final of 2-7. MVNU held an early 2-1 lead, but a six-run fifth from the hosts put the game away. The Lady Cougars bounced back in game two thanks to timely hitting and dominant pitching. An RBI double in the third followed by an RBI single in the fifth from Zhari Hill gave MVNU its first two runs. Hannah McCoy scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Mollie Pentz hit a sac-fly to score Mallory Holcomb for some extra insurance in the seventh.

Nadia Hoffman was strong in the circle in the 4-0 win, pitching five innings and allowing just two hits and no runs. The junior struck out one batter. Maddelyn Wine pitched two innings of relief for MVNU. Wine gave up no hits or runs and was also credited with the save.

 

What's Next:

MVNU plays at Marian University on Saturday, March 30 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The doubleheader starts at 1:00pm.
