Softball Splits Doubleheader with Bethel

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (10-10, 3-5) continued Crossroads League play against Bethel University (6-16, 2-6) on Friday, March 22 at the Cougar Softball Field.

MVNU run-ruled Bethel in its first game of the day by a final score of 8-0. It was a slow start for both teams as neither team drove in any runs until the fourth inning. Avery Miller was hot at the plate with three RBIs, followed by Mollie Pentz claiming two, and Mackenzie Hancock with one RBI. Sheridan Sullivan was phenomenal in the circle for the team as she gave up six hits and no run through the six innings. The senior also had eight strikeouts.

Game two saw MVNU start strong, however, the Pilots were able to slowly come back to claim a 5-7 victory. MVNU led 3-0 after one, but Bethel scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to steal one on the road. Errors hurt the Lady Cougars as they finished with four in the ballgame.

MVNU will play Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan on Monday, March 25. The doubleheader begins at 3:00pm.
