Softball Picks Up Wins Over Judson and Dordt

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (7-3) played Judson (1-11) and Dordt (IA) (7-9) at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex on Tuesday, March 5.

In the first game of the day, MVNU got revenge on Judson after losing yesterday's matchup. Brooklyn Krum and Lanie Sparks had a total of three hits with five RBI combined. MVNU had two homeruns with a solo shot from Kiera Mayer in the third inning and Mollie Pentz hit a two-run bomb in the top of the sixth inning. Bailey Sheets pitched six innings of shutout softball, allowing five hits with two strikeouts.

In game two against Dordt, MVNU won by a final of 4-3. Nadia Hoffman pitched seven innings on the day, having a total of seven strikeouts. She allowed two hits and three runs. MVNU initially trailed 0-3, but Pentz and Mackenzie Hancock helped spark the comeback in the bottom of the second, each having an RBI single to score two runs. In the fourth inning, Sydney Hoover had an RBI to bring Pentz home to score. MVNU got the go ahead run from Mayer after a sac-fly scored Shanda Melick.

 

What's Next:

MVNU softball will finish its spring break trip in Lakeland, Florida on Wednesday, March 6 with a doubleheader at No. 22 Southeastern University at 1:00pm.
