MVNU Falls in Crossroads League Semifinals to Taylor
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – No.3 Mount Vernon Nazarene University took on No.8 Taylor University in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinal at Cougar Field on Saturday, May 6.
The winner of the semifinal matchup would advance to the tournament final against No.1 Marian University. Taylor entered the ballgame as the Cinderella story of the tournament. The final seed in the play-in tournament came in having eliminated No.2 Indiana Wesleyan the day before.
Unfortunately for MVNU, the postseason magic for the Trojans did not run out on the tournament's final day, Taylor scored a run in the second, a run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to claim a 4-0 lead. The Lady Cougars got a run in the bottom of the sixth after an error at shortstop allowed Macee Marcum to trot home. MVNU was unable to muster anything else up, falling by a final of 4-1.
Sheridan Sullivan started in the circle for MVNU. Sullivan pitched 5.2 innings and gave up four runs (two earned) while striking out two. Maddelyn Wine was perfect in her 1.2 innings of relief for the Lady Cougars.
