MVNU Falls to Marian in Crossroads League Tournament

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – After defeating Taylor University and No.16 Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday, May 4, the No.25 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (33-15) took on No.9 and top-seeded Marian University (44-6) on Friday, May 5 in the Crossroads League Softball Tournament in Mount Vernon.
MVNU entered the tournament as the No.3 seed and had a chance to put itself in the championship game with a win over the Knights. Marian had other plans, however, as it took the game by a score of 12-4 in five innings. After taking a 1-0 lead early, Marian added on with a two-run homer in top of the first. MVNU responded with a two-run shot from Kaycee Ollis in the bottom of the inning to make the score 3-2.
It was all Marian from the point on. The Knights erupted for eight runs in the top of the third to put the game away. Marian finished the contest with 17 hits. Ollis led MVNU with a 2-4 day at the plate. Ollis had all four RBI for the Lady Cougars.
What's Next:
MVNU will take on Taylor University in an elimination game on Saturday, May 6 at 11:00am. The winner will advance to the championship game against Marian, which is set to start at 1:00pm.
