Lady Cougars Close Regular Season with Split against Lancers

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The 25th ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (31-14, 23-13) finished the regular season with a split against the Grace College Lancers (12-29, 11-25 CL) on Thursday, April 27.

MVNU fell in game one in a pitcher's duel by a final of 1-0. The Lancers hit a go-ahead homerun to left field in the top of the seventh to secure the win. The MVNU bats just couldn't get anything going as it finished the game with five hits and five left on base. Nadia Hoffman got the tough-luck loss for the Lady Cougars. Hoffman pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits. The righty had six strikeouts.

MVNU responded to the game one defeat with a resounding 8-0 victory in six-innings in the backend of the doubleheader. Kennady Ruhl sparked the MVNU offense with a two-run shot in the bottom of the second. The Lady Cougars never looked back and finished with 10 hits in the ballgame. Maddelyn Wine got the win in the circle for MVNU as she pitched six shutout innings. Wine gave up just five hits and had six strikeouts.

What's Next

MVNU softball will now prepare for the Crossroads League Softball Tournament in Mount Vernon, Ohio as the No.3 seed. The tournament is set for May 2-5. Times and final seedings are TBD.
