Lady Cougars Get Senior Day Sweep of Bethel

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — No.25 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball (30-11, 22-10 CL) hosted Bethel University (5-35, 4-26 CL) on Saturday, April 22.

It was a special day at Cougar Field as MVNU honored seniors Macee Marcum, Megan Pentz, Kylee Pettit, and Kaycee Ollis. MVNU dominated from the beginning as it took game one in five innings by a final of 9-0. The Lady Cougars got off to a very quick start, pushing across five runs in the first inning. A Kiera Mayer solo-shot, followed by a Mallory Shoup RBI put MVNU up 7-0 after three. Avery Miller put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI single.

Nadia Hoffman was phenomenal inside the circle for MVNU as she allowed just one hit in five innings of work in the shutout win. Hoffman had nine strikeouts.

Game two was much of the same for MVNU as it rolled to an 8-0 victory in six innings. Mayer hit her second homerun of the day, this time a two-run bomb, and Marcum went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI to lead the team offensively.

Sheridan Sullivan pitched six innings and didn't allow a run. Sullivan gave up just one hit and had two strikeouts.

MVNU plays No.10 Marian University on April 25 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The doubleheader begins at 3:00pm.
