Softball Completes Season Sweep of Maple Leafs

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The No.25 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (28-11, 20-10 CL) hosted the Goshen College Maple Leafs (22-19, 14-14 CL) on Friday, April 21 at the Cougar Softball Field.

MVNU run-ruled Goshen in five innings by a score of 9-0 in game one. The Lady Cougars completely dominated as they finished with 12 hits to Goshen's three. Holding a 4-0 lead, MVNU pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fourth to completely put the game away. Offensively, Macee Marcum finished 3-3 at the plate with two RBI. Kaycee Ollis finished 2-3 with an RBI, and Mackenzie Hancock and Mallory Shoup each finished 2-3 as well.

Sheridan Sullivan pitched a phenomenal game in the circle for MVNU. The junior pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just three hits while striking out seven.

The Lady Cougars kept rolling in game two of the series as they claimed victory by a final of 8-2. MVNU continued to see the ball well, finishing the game with 12 hits. MVNU did its damage in the third and fourth innings as it pushed across three and four runs, respectively. Kylee Pettit finished the game 3-4 at the plate and Kiera Mayer went 2-3 with a team-high three RBI. Avery Miller finished 2-4 with two RBI.

Maddelyn Wine got the win in the circle for MVNU as she allowed eight hits across seven innings of work and just two earned runs. Wine had seven strikeouts.

What's Next

MVNU will host Bethel University on Saturday, April 22. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00pm. MVNU will also be honoring its seniors after the conclusion of game two.
