Lady Cougars Bounce Back with Game Two Win at Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No.20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (23-10, 15-9 CL) split its road doubleheader at Spring Arbor University (25-9, 16-8 CL) on Saturday, April 15.
MVNU fell in game one by a final of 1-3. MVNU's lone run came in the top fourth thanks to a Megan Pentz RBI single to centerfield. Spring Arbor scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth and all three runs were unearned. Errors were costly for MVNU as it finished the game with three. Despite a solid game, Maddelyn Wine was charged with the loss. The sophomore pitched six innings and gave up six hits and three unearned runs. Wine had three strikeouts.
Game two resulted in a victory for MVNU as it bounced back with a 6-2 win. MVNU led 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth before scoring five runs in the inning to take complete control of the game. SAU scored both its runs in the bottom of the sixth, but MVNU was able to hang on for its 23rd win of the season. Kylee Pettit was 2-4 at the plate for MVNU and Paige Ogden led the team with two RBI. Sheridan Sullivan got the win as she pitched five innings. Sullivan gave up two earned runs and three hits while striking out three as well.

MVNU returns to Mount Vernon for a doubleheader against the University of Saint Francis on Tuesday, April 18. Game one starts at 3:00pm.
