Softball Ends Day with Home Split against Foresters

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The No.20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (22-7, 14-6 CL) hosted Huntington University (12-18, 8-12 CL) on Tuesday, April 11 at the Cougar Softball Field.

MVNU dropped the first game of the doubleheader 4-2. Sloppy play in the field hurt the Lady Cougars as they ended the game with four errors. Huntington used a four run sixth inning to secure the win. Despite having 11 hits, MVNU was only able to push across two runs. Sheridan Sullivan got tagged with the loss. Sullivan gave up six hits and four runs (two earned) across seven innings of work. Sullivan had 13 strikeouts.

The Lady Cougars bounced back in game two, winning by a final of 9-1 in six innings. Trailing by a run, MVNU erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. Kiera Mayer later forced the run-rule with an RBI single that drove in Kaycee Ollis and Macee Marcum to end the ballgame.

Nadia Hoffman was great in the circle for the Lady Cougars as she only gave up four hits and one run. Hoffman had six strikeouts

MVNU will host No.22 Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday, April 14. Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00pm.
