Softball Swept by Trojans

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The No.20 Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (19-6, 11-5 CL) hosted Taylor University (16-14, 8-8 CL) at the Cougar Softball Field on Thursday, April 6.

Taylor gave MVNU's pitching more than it could handle in game one. The Trojans erupted for 15 hits and used a six-run fourth inning to propel them to a 9-7 victory. MVNU walked seven batters in game one and the Trojans capitalized. Despite the pitching woes, MVNU's offense came to play as it totaled 11 hits. Paige Ogden was a bright spot for MVNU as the freshman hit a deep homerun to right-center field. Ogden finished with a team-high two RBI's.

Game two saw the Trojans take a 7-6 victory in eight innings. With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Taylor took a 7-5 lead with back-to-back RBI singles. The Lady Cougars were able to get back a run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Mollie Pentz RBI, but MVNU could not push across the game tying run.
