Lady Cougars Sweep Bethel
MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (14-3, 6-2 CL) got two wins at Bethel University (1-17, 0-8 CL) on Friday, March 24.
MVNU set the tone early in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the second. Kennady Ruhl and Mallory Shoup each had an RBI to help give MVNU a 2-0 lead. MVNU tacked on two more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 4-0. Ruhl hit an RBI-double and Kylee Pettit batted in a run of her own. Bethel responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but MVNU would hold on, winning by a final of 4-2. Nadia Hoffman picked up her third win of the season. Hoffman went 6.1 innings and allowed just three hits and two runs. The sophomore struck out nine Pilots in her start.
A big offensive showing for the Lady Cougars in game two led them to a 13-4 win. MVNU collected 16 hits. MVNU trailed the hosts 2-4 after three innings but responded with 11 unanswered runs through the fourth and sixth innings to put the game away. Kiera Mayer and Mackenzie Hancock each went deep for the Lady Cougars. Hancock finished the game with a team-high three RBI. Pettit and Shoup each had three hits to lead MVNU in game two.

MVNU takes on the University of Saint Francis on March 28 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00pm.
