Lady Cougars Come Away with Split at Taylor
UPLAND, Ind. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (12-3, 4-2 CL) continued Crossroads League play at Taylor University (10-10, 2-4 CL) on Wednesday, March 22.
The Lady Cougars dropped game one by a final of 7-8. Entering the bottom of the third, MVNU held a 5-1 lead. However, the Trojans scored six runs in the inning, claiming a two-run lead. Kylee Pettit hit an RBI-double in the sixth to bring the Lady Cougars to within one. Megan Pentz tied the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI-double of her own. Unfortunately for MVNU, the Trojans hit an RBI-single to win in walk-off fashion. Despite the loss, MVNU had the longball going. Kaycee Ollis, Macee Marcum, and Kiera Mayer each hit a homerun in game one.
MVNU bounced back in the second game, winning by a final of 8-2. Tied 1-1 heading into the second, MVNU exploded for four runs in the top of the inning to take control of the game for good. Ollis hits a three-run double to right. Ollis later scored from third via error.
Sheridan Sullivan got the win in the circle for MVNU. Sullivan pitched 3.2 innings and gave up five hits to just one earned run. The junior had six strikeouts. Paige Ogden threw 3.1 innings and allowed two hits and one earned run.
What's Next
MVNU is set to take on Bethel University in Mishawaka, Indiana on Friday, March 24. First pitch of the doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00pm.
