MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (11-2, 3-1 CL) hosted Spring Arbor University (14-4, 5-3 CL) on Tuesday, March 21 at the Cougar Softball Field.
MVNU held a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning. MVNU could not protect its lead as Spring Arbor pushed across two-runs in the frame to take the lead for good. Walks haunted MVNU in game one as it walked eight batters. Spring Arbor took advantage in its 5-4 win. Macee Marcum and Mollie Pentz were each 3-4 at the plate for MVNU. Megan Pentz finished 2-4 at the plate and had two RBI's.
The bats were hot for MVNU in game two as it exploded for 16 runs off 15 hits. Thanks to it high powered offense, MVNU only need five innings to dispatch of Spring Arbor. Maddelyn Wine got the start for MVNU in the 16-7 win. Wine gave up nine hits, six earned runs, and had seven strikeouts on the day. Kaycee Ollis went 3-3 at the plate with three RBI's. Mallory Shoup was on fire, hitting 4-4 at the plate with three RBI's. Kylee Pettit hit 3-4 and scored three runs for the Lady Cougars.
