Lady Cougars Open Conference Play with Sweep of Huntington
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (10-1, 2-0 CL) opened Crossroads League play at the Fort Wayne Baseball Academy against Huntington University (5-8, 0-2 CL) on Wednesday, March 15.
After getting a run in the first inning off an RBI from Macee Marcum, the Lady Cougars put the game away in the fifth, scoring three runs in the inning. Kaycee Ollis and Mackenzie Hancock each hit a sac-fly that scored Kylee Pettit and Marcum, respectively. Kennady Ruhl hit an RBI-double, scoring Mollie Pentz.
Sheridan Sullivan stayed hot. The junior pitched a complete game shutout and finished with 14 strikeouts. Sullivan allowed just four hits in the 4-0 win.
MVNU continued its winning ways in game two of the doubleheader. Despite trailing 0-1 after the bottom of the fourth, MVNU responded with two runs via error in the fifth to take the lead for good. Mo. Pentz and Marcum each had an RBI in the top of the sixth to help pad the lead for MVNU.
Maddelyn Wine pitched four innings, allowing three hits and a run in the 4-1 victory. Nadia Hoffman pitched three innings of relief and was credited with the win for the Lady Cougars. Hoffman allowed zero hits, zero runs, and had four strikeouts on the day.

MVNU takes on Spring Arbor University on March 21 at the Cougar Softball Field. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for 3:00pm.
