Softball Closes Florida Trip with Wins over UNOH and Carlow

Clermont, Fla. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team will return to Ohio with an 8-1 record after wins against the University of Northwestern Ohio (7-7) and Carlow University (2-6).

MVNU found a way late to secure its first win of the day. UNOH held a 2-1 advantage, but MVNU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead for good. After RBI's from Megan Pentz and Kylee Pettit, Kaycee Ollis had a bases clearing double, bringing in three runs. The Lady Cougars took game one by a final of 6-2. Macee Marcum picked up her second win of the season, pitching seven innings and allowing just five hits to go with two earned runs. The senior had four strikeouts.

MVNU continued its hot hitting in its 14-3 in over Carlow. MVNU had 15 hits in the ballgame and put seven runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh to put the game away for good. Mollie Pentz went 3-6 at the plate with an RBI, and Mallory Shoup went 3-5 with an RBI of her own. Paige Ogden and Me. Pentz led the Lady Cougars with two RBI each.

Ogden was credited with the win for MVNU. The freshman pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four hits and three earned. Maddelyn Wine pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowing four hits, zero runs, and striking out three. Nadia Hoffman had three strikeouts in her lone inning of work.

What's Next

MVNU will begin conference play at Huntington University on March 14. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00pm.
