Lady Cougars Suffer First Loss of Season Against UNOH

MINNEOLA, Fla. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (6-1) was tagged with its first loss of the season as it fell to the University of Northwestern Ohio (7-6) on Monday, March 6.

Macee Marcum put MVNU on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly that scored Kylee Pettit from third. UNOH tied the game in the bottom second, but Mallory Shoup drove in two runs in the top of the fourth, giving MVNU a 3-1 advantage. The Racers tied the game back up with runs in the fourth and fifth inning. Tied 3-3, UNOH hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh, handing MVNU its first loss of the season.

Sheridan Sullivan got the start and pitched four innings. Sullivan gave up six hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Hoffman pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up three hits and three earned runs.

What's Next

MVNU will take on UNOH one more time on Tuesday, March 7 in Clermont, Florida. First pitch is at 9:00am.
