MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team (9-11, 6-8 WHAC) hosted Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Goshen College (10-16, 5-10 WHAC) in Ariel Arena on Tuesday, March 31.
MVNU opened the match in impressive fashion by hitting .292 in its 25-20 first set victory. Goshen tied the match with a 25-18 win in set two. The Cougars answered with a hard-fought 26-24 win in the third set. With the set tied at 24-24, MVNU benefited from an attack error by Goshen followed by a kill from Jackson Bush to secure the victory. The Maple Leafs battled back, winning the fourth set 25-20, forcing a fifth and final set. Both teams traded points and refused to go down without a fight. The fifth set went into overtime, and with the score tied at 18-18, Christian Kyer delivered back-to-back kills to push MVNU to a 20-18 win. The Cougars took the five-set thriller over the Maple Leafs. In the final set, MVNU hit a red-hot .355.
MVNU had four players reach double digits in kills. Tommy Tierney had 14 while Xander Devault and Noah Wineberg each added 11. Kyer had 10 kills for MVNU. Tierney was also a force on defense for the Cougars, finishing with 11 digs and four blocks. Elisha Thao also had a strong defensive performance, finishing with 10 digs. Jaxson Snell had 31 assists, and Austin Kolaczkowski added 25 of his own.

Men's volleyball will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a match at Indiana Tech University on Wednesday, April 1. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
