Men’s Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller over Goshen

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team (4-13, 2-8 WHAC) competed in a home conference matchup against Goshen College (4-15, 1-8 WHAC) on Saturday, March 15.  

MVNU took an early lead in the match, winning the first set 25-21 against the Maple Leafs. The Cougars registered 15 kills and posted a strong hitting percentage of .333 in the opening set. Goshen responded by claiming the second set, tying the match at 1-1, and then won the third set to take a 2-1 lead. 

Ethan Cline led the Cougars with 11 kills, powering his team to a 25-21 victory in the fourth set, which leveled the match at 2-2 and sent it to a deciding fifth set. 

In the final set, the Cougars delivered their best offensive performance of the night, posting a hitting percentage of .346. The game was a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with the score tied at 15-15 and again at 18-18. Ultimately, a decisive kill by Noah Wineberg, followed by another from Cline, sealed the victory for the Cougars as they triumphed over Goshen in a dramatic finish. 

 

What's Next: 

MVNU will be back in Ariel Arena on Thursday, March 20 to take on Georgetown College. First serve will be at 7:00 p.m.
