Men’s Volleyball Reverse Sweeps Aquinas to Get First Conference Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene men's volleyball team (2-10, 1-5 WHAC) wrapped up its three-game road trip with a WHAC conference matchup against the Aquinas College Saints (3-10, 0-5 WHAC) on Saturday, February 22, at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.

The Cougars pulled off a thrilling reverse sweep against the Aquinas Saints, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory. The first four sets were intense back-and-forth battles, with MVNU dropping the first two 20-25 and 28-30 before mounting a comeback to take the next two 28-26 and 25-20. In the decisive fifth set, the Cougars took control, dominating 7-1 to start things off. Ultimately, they won the final set by a score of 15-8 to complete the reverse sweep and seal the win.

Daniel Daly led the team in attacks with 12 kills on 29 attempts, posting a .276 hitting percentage. Hayvin Larison followed closely with 11 kills on 26 attempts, while Jackson Bush and Noah Wineberg each added six kills. Christian Kyer recorded seven kills, while Austin Kolaczkowski and Ethan Cline chipped in with two each. From the service line, Bush was the standout performer with five aces. Wineberg and Kyer each contributed three aces, while Daly and Kolaczkowski added two apiece. Defensively, Daly, Larison, and Kyer were active at the net, with each recording at least one solo or assisted block. Kolaczkowski was a key playmaker, leading the team with 34 assists. In the back row, Tyler Monnin stood out with 13 digs, while Bush added 10.

The MVNU men's volleyball team returns to Ariel Arena for WHAC conference play on Saturday, March 1, at 1:00 p.m. against the No. 3 Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils.
