Men’s Volleyball Prepares to Serve Up a New Season

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. —  The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team opens their 2025 season on Thursday, January 30, with a 6:00 p.m. first serve against the Bethany College Bison in Ariel Arena.

MVNU was voted into the seventh spot in the 2025 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 27 points. The full poll can be viewed HERE.

MVNU is guided by Doug Sherer, the 2024 WHAC Champions of Character Coach. Sherer faces the challenge of leading a young team after six seniors graduated from last year's roster.

The men's volleyball team is excited to welcome seven new players for the 2025 season. Among them are four freshmen: Christian Kyer from Stow, OH, Josiah Pletcher from Lancaster, PA, Tyler Shields from Westerville, OH, and Will Stemen from Mount Vernon, OH.

"This year will be different in many ways. The past four years we have developed the program with our first recruiting class and they have set the tone for this team," said Coach Sherer. "We have seven new players to our team and are replacing those who were the foundation of our program. Those returning continue with the original foundation and bring forth the culture that they were a part of and now they are teaching the new group what it means to be a Cougar on the MVNU Men's Volleyball Team. I can't wait for the season to begin to see how we are challenged to continue the success of MVNU Volleyball."

Additionally, Jackson Bush, formerly of Cornerstone University, Emerson Ramos, previously with Eastern Nazarene College, and Nathan Sharpes joined the program.

While there are many new faces on the team, the Cougars are hungry and ready for what is ahead and look to establish themselves as competitors in the WHAC.
