SPRINGFIELD, Ohio. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team 13-5 (8-4 WHAC) left the Wittenberg Tri-Tournament unscathed as it defeated Wittenberg University (11-8) and Kentucky State University (2-19) on Tuesday, March 7.
MVNU first dispatched of NCAA Division-III Wittenberg in four sets. After falling 19-25 in set one, MVNU showed great resiliency to take the next three by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 30-28.
In the second match, MVNU took down NCAA Division-II Kentucky State by scores of 25-12, 24-26, 25-13, and 25-10. Libero, Daniel Skrzypchak had the match winning kill to give MVNU its 13th win of the season.
Inside the Box Score (Match 1)
Spencer Stanley and Landon Ewers led MVNU with 18 and 17 kills, respectively. Ewers dominated up front with nine blocks. Stanley finished with four blocks.
As a team, MVNU finished with 19 blocks total.
Jaysen Matsumoto had 46 assists, eight digs, three service aces and three block assists.
Skrzypchak had 13 digs to lead MVNU.
Inside the Box Score (Match 2)
Makoa Van Gieson had 17 kills.
Ewers had 11 kills and four blocks at the net.
Stanley added nine kills and two blocks.
Matsumoto had 28 assists and Mikaja Dart had 14 assists.

MVNU returns to Ariel Arena on March 10-11 for a series against Siena Heights University. Match times are at 7:00pm and 3:00pm, respectively.
