Hard Fought Crossroads League Opener Results in Draw After Henthorn Goal

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team (5-1-3) hosted Goshen College (6-1-2) for its first Crossroads League matchup of the season. The match took place at CH4 Stadium on Wednesday, September 24, where the Cougars tied the Maple Leafs with a final score of 1-1. 

An aggressive first half ended scoreless for both teams. Goshen was the first to score in the second half with a goal by Eli Simones at the 61st minute. 

MVNU's Calvin Henthorn responded with a goal at the 79th minute, which was his first career goal. Henthorn's goal brought the game to the final score of 1-1. 

Brayden Pierson collected seven saves while in the net for the full 90 minutes. MVNU fired off 14 shots, six of which were on goal. Goshen had 20 shots total, with eight of them being on goal. 

 

What's Next

MVNU will travel to Mishawaka, Indiana to face No. 10 Bethel University on Saturday, September 27. The Crossroads League matchup will start at 5:00 p.m.
