Cougars Score Five Goals in Dominant Shutout Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team (5-1-2) traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to play Brescia University (1-5-2) on Thursday, September 18.  

MVNU took a strong lead in the first half after scoring three goals. Miguel Bello was first to score for the Cougars within the first minute of the game. Tiago Dejesus then scored the second goal in the 22nd minute off an assist from Diogo Bento. Chucho Salgado scored for MVNU in the 28th minute with an assist by Elkana Maier, putting the team up 3-0 going into the second half.  

In the second half, Salgado was assisted once again by Maier and scored the fourth goal of the game at the 54th minute. Baba Sarr, at the 64th minute, scored the final goal of the game and was assisted by Max Walker and Alex DeJesus. MVNU won with a final score of 5-0. 

Brayden Pierson made one save in the 90 minutes and marked his fifth shutout of the season. MVNU's strong defense only allowed Brescia to have one shot on goal. The Cougars outshot Brescia 24-6, putting 13 of those shots on goal. 

 

What's Next 

The Cougars will open conference play on Wednesday, September 24 when they will host Goshen University (Ind.) at CH4 Stadium for a start time of 7:00 p.m.
