Cougars Secure Road Win Over Siena Heights
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (3-1) traveled to face Siena Heights University (0-2) on Thursday, February 19.
The Cougars started off the game strong, scoring ten goals in the first quarter with Ethan Haney scoring six of those ten goals. Connor Kistner was first to put MVNU on the board, after an assist from Colton McKee at 13:32. MVNU held Siena Heights to only one goal in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cougars extended their lead over Siena Heights by scoring an additional five goals. Kistner and Dylan Haynes both had two goals in the second quarter. Siena Heights scored two goals in the second quarter, bringing the score in the Cougar's favor to 15-3, going into the half.
In the third quarter, MVNU won the faceoff, and Angelo Elia, assisted by Kistner, would quickly score a goal with 13:58 on the clock. MVNU would rally two more goals, one from Haynes and one from Haney. After Siena Heights scored two more goals, MVNU would end the third quarter still on top with a score of 18-5.
MVNU would win the faceoff once again at the start of the fourth quarter. Kistner would score the first goal for the Cougars at the start of the fourth quarter, putting them up 19-5. After the Cougars rallied three more goals, Siena Heights would be able to score two more goals in the quarter, but MVNU would win with a score of 26-7.
Haney led the MVNU offense, scoring ten goals, tying his own program record and provided one assist. Kistner scored five goals, making a new career high, and had four assists. Haynes tied his career high of four goals and added three assists. In goals for the Cougars, Vaughan Hawkins played all 60 minutes, making eight saves. McKee led in faceoff wins, winning 11 out of 16, helping the Cougars win 25 out of the 37 faceoffs. MVNU had 40 total ground balls, went 19 for 21 on clears, and caused 28 Siena Heights turnovers.
