Men’s Lacrosse Takes First Loss of Season at No. 10 Taylor

UPLAND, Ind.  The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (2-1) traveled to take on No. 10 Taylor University (3-1) in Upland, Indiana on Saturday, February 14. 

MVNU struck first with a goal by Dylan Haynes 27 seconds into the game. Taylor responded 33 seconds later with a goal of its own. Connor Kistner helped MVNU reclaim the lead with an unassisted goal with 12:26 remaining in the quarter. The Trojans scored twice more in the first quarter and would take a 3-2 lead into the second. The scoring kept up for both teams in the second and MVNU would tie things up at 5-5 with Haynes' second goal of the gameassisted by Colton McKee, with 4:37 left before half. With 27 seconds left before halftime, Taylor scored a goal to claim a 6-5 lead, giving it momentum heading into the break. 

Taylor continued to live off the momentum from its goal heading into the half and would go on a 4-0 scoring run to take a 10-5 lead and complete control of the game. In the end, MVNU suffered a 10-14 loss to the No. 10 team in the nation. 

Haynes led MVNU with four goals and four groundballs. Kistner and Chase Lawler each scored twice, with Kistner also dishing out an assist. McKee and Angelo Elia each scored once. Ethan Haney had an assist. Rylin Batac had a team-high five groundballs. Vaughan Hawkins had 19 saves in goal for the Cougars. 

 

What's Next 

MVNU heads to Adrian, Michigan for a matchup with Siena Heights University on February 19. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
